NY Destinations: Angelo Galasso & The Plaza Hotel.
A richness In materials & philosophy is a driving force in today’s Menswear - lines that carry not only luxury goods but ideals that illuminate lifeless garments. Angelo Galasso, a world-renowned Italian Menswear & Haute Couture designer, used that mentality & manifested it into a physical presence with his very first US flagship store In New York at the Plaza Hotel.
For those unclear as to how prime & at the same time, extremely rare this sort of space is, know this: for a location that is a National Historic Landmark, accruing 450 million USD in renovations, & regularly being unavailable for reservations months at a time to allow its Edwardian Room to be revived as it were, into a flagship store for a Menswear line… is practically unheard of.
Galasso’s line, however, fits in perfectly with the location as it compliments the masculinity of the Edwardian Room, with its strong oak paneled walls & trussed ceiling - now outfitted with impressive shirting, outerwear, & black glossed mannequins. As Galasso puts it, “passion, sensitivity and a touch of self-irony Is the only way to remain in the path of creativity.” Enjoy.

Angelo Galasso opens first U.S location at The Plaza Edwardian Room
The Plaza’s Edwardian Room has come full circle in the celebration of men and style with the opening of Italian menswear line Angelo Galasso. Opened on October 1, 1907 as a men’s only café, the Edwardian Room, located on the northeast corner of The Plaza with views of Central Park and Fifth Avenue, was designed by the hotel’s architect, Henry Hardenbergh. With the era of Prohibition, this beloved home of the men’s “Power Breakfast” and after work cocktails permanently opened its doors to women in 1921 and became, for many, the most romantic restaurant in New York. It became the Plaza Restaurant in the early ’40s and officially the Edwardian Room in 1955. Through its name changes and incarnations the incredible architectural details and masculine personality have endured and the space has remained the Edwardian Room to New Yorkers and its devote visitors.
Now, after a restoration, the grand Spanish Renaissance Revival style space, with its paneled oak wainscoting, elaborate trussed ceiling, stenciled decorations and mirrors will receive a jolt of Fatto in Italia with its very first retail outpost - Angelo Galasso. The Italian menswear label, with stores in Milan, London and Moscow, has taken over the space for its US debut. Angelo Galasso is delighted to bring his 20•year design experience and his Haute Couture values in the production of his menswear - honoring Italian craftsmanship, rarity and uniqueness - to New York with the opening of his first US flagship in such an iconic location.

Angelo Galasso opens first United States location at The Plaza Hotel’s Edwardian Room in NYC
The Edwardian Room opened on October 1, 1907 as a men-only cafe, designed by the hotel’s architect, Henry Hardenbergh, and quickly became the home of the “power breakfast”. In 1921, the men-only rule was changed and ladies were admitted during the Prohibition Era. The “Plaza Restaurant” remained its name throughout the Forties as no rooms in The Plaza were officially named during that period. In 1955, the space was formally named The Edwardian Room in honor of the age that it personified. Through its many name changes and incarnations, its appeal has remained the same: the incredible architectural details and masculine personality, which have been incredibly preserved and painstakingly restored. With its spectacular views of both Central Park and 5th Avenue, the Room has been a private event space in recent years.
